"Solid wood" is a wood that has not been processed except for sawing and drying to an appropriate level of moisture, and therefore its properties are very similar to the characteristics of the wood from which it is sawed. Like woods in nature it is resistant to humidity and has a great strength according to the fibers direction. Different types of tree used for a variety of products according to their characteristics. An acceptable division in the industry is for soft woods and hardwoods. The soft trees, such as pine, fir, and cedar grow relatively quickly, hence their low price compared to hardwoods, and usually come from the rain forests. Woods differ in their color, their characteristic patterns, their natural oils, their density and suitability for machining, their size (and hence the size and structure of the panels derived from them).


Laser cutting of Solid wood

Laser cutting produces a lot of heat and the edges of the cut are burned and darkened. Different trees react differently to laser cutting, and sometimes boards from the same tree produce a slightly different result. This is because the tree as a natural material is not uniform and factors such as: degree of humidity / dryness, the amount of natural oils in wood, the area of wood from which the board is cut, "eyes" and others determine the result of laser cutting. However, with a good design, wonderful results can be achieved and a variety of impressive products can be produced: furniture, natural looking wood signs, wooden cases and prestigious wooden boxes, wood sculptures and more.


Laser engraving on solid wood

One of the laser's most impressive abilities is engraving on wood. We can engrave fine text and line graphics or engrave rich areas and graphics, engrave on the surface of the wood or subtract the thickness of the wood and create a deep multi-layered structure. In a proper design it is possible to produce a deep, three-dimensional engraving. Lumber with a distinctive pattern, like oak, for example can be engraved by laser, but sometimes the result is not as crisp and distinguished because the engraved text/graphic compete with the natural pattern of the oak.
