Production of model parts with laser cutting

One of the great advantages of laser cutting technology is the production of parts for models. Since prototyping usually requires computer-aided design and the production of computer drawings of the model, it is very easy to extract laser cutting files from these sketches, and two-dimensional drawings are actually suitable as a cutting file that can be imported into the laser machines to cut the model.
Laser cutting allows you to get out of the two-dimensional world and help you produce three-dimensional  models, usually from layouts or parts that make up the model's backbone or the model shell.

you can create three-dimensional models out of two-dimensional sheet in the following ways:

  1. The three-dimensional body is divided into layers in a specific thickness that can be cut by laser, and later on will be glued back to constract the 3D model. For example, in an architectural topographic model, you can see the structure of the terrain in high altitude.
  2. Create a folding layout (for a 3D model) by cutting with laser the layout of the sheet and the folding lines for perfect accuracy, and later fold it, like with any paper packaging, according to the marked folding lines into a 3D model.
  3. Connecting together parts which were cut by laser from a flat sheet and later on bonding them together with glue or by other way. This way is very useful for boxes, stands and packaging

Some models are different kinds of miniatures. Whether it is reduced to minimal scale, modeling of a room or part of a wall, a facade of a building, a miniature model of a machine or a gift given to a customer as a promotion item. In some cases, there is no need for additional finishing beyond laser processing and the parts are ready to  be used right out of the machine. In other cases, it is possible to paint, cover or create a different finish to give the part the desired look. Laser cutting enables very fast and easy create replacement parts for damaged parts, such as a gasket that has been torn and in some cases be replaced with stronger parts, made out of more durable materials, or more customized to enhance the fitting for a specific purpose.
